Bride of Frankenstein
Malaysian director Mamat Khalid will have two films premiering in Europe at this year’s Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy. They are the horror spoof Zombi Kg Pisang and noir thriller-comedy Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang. The director will be in attendance.
Check out the links for Udine’s Paolo Bretolin’s synopses for both films, plus my review of Kala Malam.

I’m really looking forward to catching Kala Malam ...

I had some friends looking for these in Singapore - apparently both are available on DVD there albeit without subs. Maybe Stefan or The Visitor have some updates on that? Any news about local releases with subs or are we going to be stuck with subbed VCDs like “Putri Gunung Ledang”?

Im not sure if KALA MALAM will be easy to follow without any knowledge of the Malaysian movie industry. I assume there are a lot of “inside” jokes…

unfortunately, a majority of Malaysian DVDs are not English-friendly. so far i’ve noticed that only movies that have also been released in Singapore and elsewhere (Sepet, Mukhsin, Jangan Pandang Belakang, PGL) have English subs on their DVDs.

I was afraid of that. Would you happen to know if the VCDs do contain English subs? I know someone going back that way this week and if so I’ll ask them to check them out.
thanks.
