The Matsugane Potshot Affair
Lord of the Rings did a special one day marathon of all three films when Return of the King opened over a year ago but that was only three movies. Pansies I say! How about viewing all six Star Wars films on May 16th? Mercy.
BBC NEWS reported today that there will be a special screening of all six Star Wars movies in Londons Leicester Square, the hub of the UK cinema industry.
For £50 [117 Canadian dollars or 94 US dollars] you can watch the first five films and be one of the first to see the final installment of the prequel trilogy. You will also get a performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing Star Wars music as well.
“Revenge of the Sith is a remarkable movie, and this extraordinary celebration reflects the fun and excitement that are the hallmarks of Star Wars,” said the movie’s producer, Rick McCallum. “The Star Wars movies have a strong connection to the United Kingdom, so it’s very fitting to hold this one-of-a-kind event here in London.”
Hayden Christensen, Anthony Daniels, and Peter Mayhew will be in attendance at the premier.
More power to them. I’ve tried to watch the original trilogy straight through at the Wonder Twins’ house. We slept. Our problem was familiarity with the movies was so much that we could fall asleep, wake up and know exactly where in the movie we were. My gosh, we’d been watching them since we were toddlers.
Now. Will they show the original Star Wars movies from 77, 80 and 83, or, will they be watching the up to date, updated versions?
Star Wars Math: Not knowing how long Revenge of the Sith was I guess-timated how much total running time a full six film marathon would be compared to the Lord of the Rings marathon. It was close but Star Wars is up by three hours. My pansies comment stands.

I wonder what order they’re going to play them in.
I guess they’d have to show the original trilogy first, but that might spoil the whole effect. Or not.
You know what else just occurred to me? Return of the Jedi actually sucks, and not just because of the Ewoks. Not as bad as the prequels, mind you, but clearly one of those “what was I thinking” moments. The memomries of my youth are betraying me.

I suppose they’ll play them in the order of release, i.e 4-6, then 1-3 so they premiere Revenge of the Sith last. That’s how I would do it, anyway.
And Return of the Jedi did not suck.

I once watched 12-hours of the series 24 in a row, also watched 8 episodes of the Sopranos in one hit and watched the Die Hard Trilogy back to back. I nearly made it through all 3 Godfather films in one go, but I fell asleep with about 30-mins left of the third installment. I think they are my records when it comes to back to back viewing of series / trilogys. Would never in a million years make it through all the Star War films in one go. I think I would struggle with two. Firstly, not a huge fan, secondily I do get fidgity in a cinema and after about 2.5 hours, I start felling uncomfortable and irritated. I would have a better chance if I was at home maybe, but then it would be damn tough!!!.

Made the LOTR trilogy (including the EE’s of the first two) in one day with only 5 minute breaks between the films. Made sausages and bacon and focaccia for lembas bread. It was a good time even though it lasted roughly 12 hours.

We also did the Lord of the Rings (All Extended version) back-to-back...10-15 minute break between each DVD (that’s 5 breaks)...5 participants watching it on an 8 Foot home theatre. Only one of the five had seen all the Extended versions. Worked out very well, partly because the continuity of LotR is so good.
I couldn’t make it through even the original trilogy in on setting...two many things outside the films have spoiled the joy. I Still very much like Empire Strikes back, but the rest of them (including both prequels) leave me mainly cold and apathetic.

I’d be all over this in a seond. I did the LOTR EE showing at the theater and it was SO worth it. still have the banner too!
someone in CA should do this!

Doing episode 1,2,and 3 in one sitting would probably work better than trying to cram ‘em all in.And you would want it to end with the new one - not sit thru 6+ more hours of movies you’ve seen 100 times. And it would be silly to show 4,5,and 6 first as that kind of defeats the watch it continuously purpose.
