Once John Woo has wrapped things up with his current epic Red Cliff he is going to start up his next project, a post WWII romance picture titled 1949. Estimated budget for this picture is a whopping $40 million. How you spend $40 million on a romance picture I have no idea.
The story of 1949, penned by Lust, Caution scribe, Wang Hui-ling, is based on true events at the end of WWII through the final years of the Chinese Civil War. 1949 will star Chang Chen, part of Woo’s Red Cliff cast, and Korea’s Song Hye-kyo.
“Among my other films, this will be the one that will underline humanity the most”, Woo was quoted as saying by Yonhap News.
