Away From Her
Obviously this is all speculation until the people at the Cannes festival come out and confirm but acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai is now on record saying that he expects his reworked version of Ashes of Time - his sole entry into the wuxia canon - to premiere at the world’s most prestigious film festival this coming May. WKW being WKW the question is, of course, whether it’ll be done on time but based on what I was told about the project at the Hong Kong Filmart in March he’s certainly not far away from completion.

Does this mean there will finally be a half way decent DVD encoded, hopefully, BladeRunner / Dune style where we get both versions in one tidy package?
One can hope.

more than a half decent dvd. Wong and Co. are using the master copy and remastering the film using the latest tech. Thank goodness we can finally get a watchable Ashes DVD. The ones I have seen have looked absolutely horrible.

The version I have on DVD is okay—not great, but watchable. I think it’s Mei Ah. But I rented one years ago with subtitles against a black background. Old school imbedded subtitles are sometimes hard to read (especially when they fall off the frame), but I prefer it to subtitles in black boxes that cover half of the screen. I don’t know which company did that particular DVD release.

When are we getting a full version of Days of Being Wild though, the version where we see why Tony Leung Chiu-wai is in the film at the end?
