I’m pretty sure we have talked about the Vikings vs Aliens movie Outlander on this site but my search has turned up nothing none the less. The movie, based largely on the Beowulf story pits Vikings in Norway against a blood thirsty alien with a space bounty hunter caught in the middle. The cast is pretty strong, James Caviezel, John Hurt and Ron Perlman and the film is produced by Lord of the Rings producer Barrie M. Osborne. The film has a somewhat checkered past, trouble during production and has laid pretty much unnoticed for a couple of years until now.
An international trailer has popped up and I have to say it looks pretty bad ass. Hollywood has never done a proper Viking film and while this isn’t one either it still looks and feels way better than the turd that was the Pathfinder. Hopefully this will find some sort of success although I doubt it since it’s been way under the radar all this time. But here’s hoping.

The CG doesn’t look all that great, and the acting isn’t hot either.
Well at least it’ll make a grand SCi-fi channel movie.

Swarez - took the liberty of getting images up for you since we’re all in the same boat here it seems. Helping me helping you. I dunno. Something silly like that.

I don’t see anything wrong with the CGI, but the accents could use some work.
Vikings are the new ninjas/pirates/robots.

Thanks Mac!
Didn’t see anything wrong with the CGI. Going to have to see the movie first to make a final judgement.

Jesus and Hellboy fighting aliens = awesome. Looks better than I was expecting - and I was expecting a lot.

We did talk about it. The reason why it is not in the archives is because the article way back in 2005 (http://twitchfilm.net/archives/002060.html) was removed at the producers request.
Glad to see they’ve made it this far with the movie. While it didn’t totally ‘do it for me’ (Trancers 4: Jack of Swords or even more—Star Knight—The Bad Lieutenant vs. Aguirre—spring a little mind. Ouch.) If they can get this in the cinema though, I’m more than happy to pay.
Sad to see John Hurt still slumming it though, been rather disappointed with his film choices as of late, but if Outlander kicks ass, then some is forgiven.

I was really psyched about this film till this trailer :(
The CGI looks on par with the creature in Relic which is a bit sad considering the years in between. Obviously have to watch the full film for a definite opinion but it didn’t look that great.
Then we are onto the trailer itself. They have not left anything to the imagination. The entire film was just summarised. I’ll take a wild guess an assume they even showed the killing blow of the monster in one of the last shots.
I can only hope the film is more satisfying and interesting than the trailer.

I never had any faith in this project. With the Weinsteins producing this was bound to be garbage and the endless delays in releasing it only confirmed these suspicions. Except that this presents a very well made and good looking movie which also happens to have a story that’s nothing short of batshit insane. It’s the kind of script that would usually get filmed by a direct-to-video hack with a minimal budget. Seems they decided to make a B movie with A production values. I sure hope I’m right.
