Yes, kids, you read that right. David Howard’s Flick, a loving ode to the drive in classics of yesteryear, casts Faye Dunaway as a tough talking, one armed cop from Memphis on professional exchange in Wales where she must track down the undead corpse of a 1950’s rockabilly teen brought back from his watery grave by the awesome power of AM radio and bent on wreaking bloody revenge on those who did him wrong in life. I caught this one back when it played at the AFM in November but was asked to keep quiet about it at the time but am free to speak up now that the first trailer has arrived on the scene.
Howard’s got an excellent eye and fills the film with some truly striking visuals thanks to his liberal use of color filters and off kilter angles. Throw in a fairly liberal sprinkling of blood - bearing in mind, however, that this is very much a throwback to 1950’s cult film and not meant as a modern day bloodbath - a weirdly compelling creature, and a very solid cast bolstered by the magnetic pull of Dunaway’s wooden prosthetic and you have the makings of a tidy little cult film. The trailer explains things rather well without my help so check it out. You’ll find it embedded in the Twitch Player below the break.

Why were asked to keep quiet about it?
The trailer looks interesting. Very off kilter stuff.

Who’s the hideously deformed woman? Oh shit that’s Dunaway!

I’ve been a part of the Psychobilly underground here in the States for 12 years and I’m so excited about this. It is everything I love, rock n roll, horror, rockabilly, and movies all at once. I can’t wait! Maybe AFI Dallas will get it next month…

Zombeaner: it’s definitely going on the festival circuit though I don’t know about AFI.
Swarez: it’s pretty common for sales agents to want to keep market screenings quiet. As a general rule I can only write about films from markets when they’ve already had a public release somewhere. Usually it’s because they want to keep all the press for one good push at a strategic time, sometimes it’s because markets sometimes screen incomplete versions. Pretty sure the version I saw was 100% complete.
