Procuror of Hell
It might not be the kind of Christmas gift Kwak Kyung-Taek wants—that would be reaching the break even point at 5 Million tickets sold—but his latest blockbuster 태풍 (Typhoon) is quickly reserving its place at the very top of the yearly box office. Released on December 14, the film has so far sold 3,254,000 tickets in less than two weeks, getting close to the Million tickets in Seoul alone (920,000). The film, starring Lee Jung-Jae and Jang Dong-Gun, sold 210,000 tickets over December 24 and 25, with a huge release of 500 screens nationwide (down 40 from its initial release, but still over 1/3 of the country’s total screens).
With a budget of 20 Billion Won, the highest of all time in Korea, ‘Typhoon’ is already around the Top 5 of the year, and could challenge the 8 Million of 웰컴 투 동막골 (Welcome to Dongmakgol) by early next month. Complete box office report later this week.

*giggles* How much does that poster look like a rip-off of “Lost”?
