With the live action adaptation of Dororo riding high at the top of the Japanese box office it should come as no surprise that there are not one but two sequels now in the works, the pair due to shoot simultaneously in 2008 with an aimed for release in 2009. All the details are at Ryuganji.

I’ve heard nothing but great things about Dororo and definitely look forward to seeing it (someway, somehow). I’ve read Schilling’s Japan Today review but was wondering if any Twitch member has seen it yet?

I’ve only encountered the story of “Dororo” in the form of the recent PS2 game based on the original manga (released in the US under the rather puzzling title “Blood Will Tell"). The game certainly has its flaws (unninspired, derivative hack-and-slash gameplay and bad English dubbing chief among them), but I was pleasantly surprised at the depth, charm and even warmth of the story at its core. I still have hopes that the original Tezuka Osamu “Dororo” comic will find its way to our Western shores, but in the mean-time, I’m excitedly looking forward to seeing this new film adaptation.
