Twitch Gets Bloody. ** UPDATE **

[Hey, look over there on the right!  Right under ‘Stuff We Like’!  We gots headlines!]

As some of the more observant among you may have already noticed, there have been some things brewing behind the scenes here at Twitch for a little while now and I am very pleased to finally be able to announce this publicly.  Twitch is very happy to be entering into an alliance of sorts with Brad Miska and the good lads over at Bloody Disgusting.

First of all, let me say what this is not.  This is not in any way a buy out or even a buy in.  Twitch has no stake in Bloody Disgusting, nor do they have a stake in Twitch.  I have no say in their editorial content, nor do they have any say in ours.  In terms of what we cover and how we cover it things will continue on largely as they always have.  What this is is the culmination of a conversation that began way back in September when Bloody Disgusting editor Brad Miska and I met up for a beverage or two at the Toronto Film Festival.  Over the course of that conversation it became very clear that we not only share a common approach to what we do and very similar tastes both in what we like and why but that we were both regular readers and fans of the other’s site and that being the case it seemed like a natural thing to wonder how Twitch and Bloody Disgusting could partner up to help each other out and make both sites stronger while still preserving the unique character that has made each what they are.

We feel like the two sites are very complementary, Bloody Disgusting being the leading site for information on - dominantly - English language horror film in the entire world while Twitch tends to look both outside genre bounds and largely outside of the English speaking world to find the best international films.  And so what you’re going to see going forward is a higher level of information sharing between us.  There’s already a permanent Bloody Disgusting link in our top navigation area as well as Twitch links on the main Bloody Disgusting page and, in the next week or so, you’ll see a permanent area in our right hand column featuring the latest Bloody Disgusting headlines while they will prominently feature the latest Twitch headlines on their site.  And as time goes on we’ll be looking for other ways that we can share content and do whatever we can to bolster both sites, making both stronger in the process.

We’re very excited about this and feel that it is a true win-win scenario, something that does nothing but add to both sites, and we hope you’ll all feel the same way.  You can check out a more formal statement from Bloody Disgusting on the matter below the break.

Launched in January of 2001 Bloody-Disgusting.com immediately took hold of the horror community by the throat and has yet to let go. Since then Bloody has
become the largest horror community in the world with over one million different monthly readers. “It started as being just a news and review site and become much, much more than that,” says co-founder and editor-in-chief Brad Miska, “We launched the site to bring all of the horror news to one spot and save people the hassle of clicking onto dozens of websites, since then we’ve built a fan base of loyal readers who not only come for the news, but come to be part of the horror experience.”

Something that Bloody takes much pride in is getting behind what they feel are quality films. “There are so many movies out there that the typical horror fan could get lost in all of the content,” Miska continues, “what we take pride in is ‘discovering’ great films and then giving them the exposure and press it deserves. We have been credited for the success of such films as HATCHET and AUTOMATON TRANSFUSION. In a day and age where the DVD walls are covered in direct-to-video releases, there is no better feeling than helping horror fans find quality films to take home and enjoy.”

“Over the years I have become increasingly impressed by what Todd Brown has done with Twitch Film,” says Miska, “he has cornered the market for all edgy international releases and has given life to foreign films that might never have seen the light here in the States. But having a site like Twitch without the knowledge means absolutely nothing - Brown has such a passion for foreign filmmaking that he knows what directors/actors to watch, what countries to keep his eyes on and eventually will go out of his way to make sure he’s the first to see it just so he can spread the good word to the web community. He is an incredible asset to horror fans and foreign film fans alike. Teaming with Twitch is a dream come true and now being part of the growth of such a fantastic website is a remarkable feeling. To say I’m excited is an understatement.”

Kudos. Two kick ass film sites for the price of one. Plus your column with AINC? Not too shabby.

As long as you don’t post complete bullshit rumors as “fact” like BG does on a regular basis, I won’t bitch.

    Actually, I probably will anyway.
