Russia is a nation with a long, long history of animation but they have in recent years either resisted keeping up with current trends or simply been unable.  While there have been a number of very impressive cel animated efforts work using newer animation methods has been, to put it kindly, somewhat lacking.  But no more!  A first glimpse of upcoming animated feature Fedot The Shooter has arrived - and if an Russian speakers out there can provide a synopsis I’d be most grateful - and it looks fantastic!  It’s a fairy tale done using a sort of hyper stylized, CG assisted, layered 2D technique - similar to some of Michel Ocelot’s work, though not quite the same - and the level of detail and energy is very impressive. This should be very fun.  You’ll find the footage below the break, embedded in the Twitch Player.

    1. This is not a trailer, but footage.

    2. I did not find the synopsis, probably it is not released yet. It is based on Leonid Filatov’s tale. You can read about it on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_Fedot_the_Strelets

    3. As for animation, there were magnificent series of tales “The mountain of gems”. http://www.multiskazka.ru/ There were released 5 DVD with 5 mults in every. What is interesting is that every mult made in its own technique and based on tale. I liked this series very much.

The cartoon is based on the fairy-tale-poem written by famous russian dramatical actor Leonid Filatov, who died in 2003 as a result of long and painful illness.

The tale is about the guy named Fedot who serves his King as a Hunter (Not Shooter). In the woods Fedot finds a magical bird who asks him not to kill her - and becomes his wife instead (she can turn into beautiful and smart woman). The King becomes jealous about Fedot’s new wife and forces Fedot to accomplish different impossible missions - and if Fedot will fail the King promises to execute him and take his wife.

But the magical bird helps Fedot accomplish King’s every task. While his surreal adventures Fedot meets many russian folklore entities.

The original poem is full of fun, political jokes and smart ideas. And all of it will sound in the cartoon.

PS: sorry for my english, i’m from Belarus smile
