Then Came Summer
I’m going to just post this one up and then duck and cover, okay? Because a whole lot of you really aren’t going to like what you’re about to see. It’s the trailer for The Uninvited, the US remake of Kim Ji-Woon’s much loved Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters. Possible talking points for the anti-remake brigade:
1. They’ve obviously skewed the target audience much younger.
2. What’s with all the t&a shots in the trailer?
3. They’ve introduced a completely new ghost subplot that dramatically alters the whole who’s dead and who’s haunting thing that drives the movie.
This looks to be one of the remakes that borrows a few shots and a concept or two from the original film far more than it is a close, literal adaptation which means while it may end up being a decent movie in its own right - questionable based on performances in the trailer - purist fans of the original are going to be incensed. Sorry, maybe a noob-question, what’s a t&a;shot?

tetas y culo, amigo.
So… they remake a film using the title of another Korean film of a similar vein? Peculiar. Is A Tale of Two Sisters going to be renamed “Janghwa, Hongnyeon” now?

It means Titts and Ass.
That trailer was generic and unoriginal as hell and it’s weird that they seem to have changed the storyline so much. Probably too confusing for the mall crowd.
kidlazarus 10/05/2008 @ 7:42am
please… somebody… make. it. stop.
there ought to be a law against remaking quality films.
it’s sad when I would advocate dubbing foreign films for imbeciles that refuse to watch subtitled movies.
burn, hollywood burn.

Remember when the Korean press thought Kim had a foot fetish haha. The fuck is this anyway, I just saw the house blowing up there? UR NXT!!!
Appauled.

Ugh I hate Hollywood.
MavisFan 10/05/2008 @ 10:07am
Sucks ass!!! Braindead Hollywood cinema at it’s best. So whats the next korean remake we have to look forward to? I only get as far as seeing maybe 30sec of the trailers out of pure curiosity, just way to painful.

gah. if they hadn’t mentioned Tale of Two Sisters, no one would have cared - just another teen horror film. Whatever. But the fact they even mention Tale of Two Sisters makes this shoddy stuff at best. Insulting at worst. The original was crafted brilliantly with amazing cinematography. This is just cheap, run of the mill Hollywood crap.

Thanks for ruining my day.

What kind of sick person remakes A Tale of Two Sisters into this?
djvitamind 10/05/2008 @ 12:32pm
Wow this is bad. The sad part is that the majority of people with have no idea that it’s a re-make… if you can call it that.
ChevalierAguila 10/05/2008 @ 10:42pm
Again, i’m just glad that i’m not watching this. BTW, the original was quite average me thinks, but at least it was quite decent in the technical aspects: good direction, and the performances were actually quite goo. Don’t expect any of that in this one.
panik 10/06/2008 @ 6:38am
Why do people get so mad about remakes? yes its sacrilege but big deal.
It doesn’t harm or replace the original and you aren’t forced to watch it, in fact why even report it here? im sure no twitcher will be looking forward to it.
Its a pity, but the fact is, the vast majority of the american public do not watch or care about foreign films and they are the target for remakes...not the twitch crowd.
So stop posting remake news please, unless you like reading moans and groans in the comments.
There is a target audiance for remakes, its not the those at twitch, so move along please...nothing to see here.
The origianl is safe, relax, everything ok (rolls eyes)

To.. be.. honest..
After all the griping here, that trailer actually didn’t make the film look too bad. Yes, the girls wear bikinis now. WHOA, call the newspapers! They live by the lake and actually swim?? How dare they…
For all I know the general storyline and mood might have survived intact. Trailers generally don’t deal with illusions and dreams too good because they require a bit of build-up to work, and that’s where the scares will be.
Not saying this won’t be crap (hell, it might still be and that jukebox-gravestone looks silly as hell) but the appearance of David Strathairn as the father tells me they got at least SOME of the casting right.
dullboy 10/06/2008 @ 11:29am
Looks like they are trying to make this a hybrid with “The Stepfather”.
ChevalierAguila 10/06/2008 @ 9:18pm
This kind of news are ok actually, it’s a good reminder of why Hollywood is so full of itself.

Looks like another steaming pile of crap straight from Hollywoods ass. A Tale of Two Sisters is one of my favorite Korean films.I hate to see a great film dumbed down so much that it is a mere shadow of its former self. I’m sure the sheep that don’t know any better will flock.
