As many of you are probably aware I had the opportunity to program a pair of programs for the 2008 Worldwide Short Film Festival here in Toronto.  The midnight slots were my own little playground and I filled them with all manner of oddity.  But of all the stuff I tucked away in there - the vagina dentata, alien mind control, explosive vomit, etc - the film that drew the strongest reaction from the crowd, the one that had people squirming in their seats the most was Violeta, la pescadora del mar negro, a bleak and disturbing piece of stop motion animation from the minds of Spanish animators Anna Solanas and Marc Riba.  Violeta plays like a Grimms Fairy Tale gone horribly, horribly wrong - which is saying something considering that the entire premise of Grimm tales is that something goes horribly wrong.

Well, Solanas and Riba are back.  Their latest looks every bit as dark and compelling.  Titled Cabaret Kadne it will soon be hitting the screen at the Sitges festival but we’ve got a trio of stills and the first teaser for your viewing pleasure.  Fans of international animation:  this one is a must.  These two rank amongst the most technically accomplished and compellingly unique animators in the world today.  Check the teaser below the break and the stills at the link below.
