A 2004 film we’ve had snippets about around here, and one that has also recieved (recently) a subtitled Japanese DVD (expensive, rememeber). So, sticking this one on my list for January - a nice USA DVD for relatively little money. Most importantly, here’s Todds recent review here at Twitch.

Tony Takitani Official Website (in Japanese).

Boston Globe review (says streaming trailer is also here), a lengthy Book Review of the source material, Sundance Synopsis, Indiewire Review, Blogcritics Review.

Should be a whole load of reviews online, as it did get a USA release in Cinemas for a while it seems - these area broad selection offering different things into the mix.

here is a short story from the new yorker, i’m not sure if it’s the same one though, anyway…

Very much looking forward to this. Here’s one review of the film that I’ve found.

Korean DVD releasing soon should have English Subs.

I’ve been waiting for that Korean release. Hopefully it will hit the shelves at the same time as Sympathy for Lady Vengeance so I can save some postage fees wink

This is an excellent (short) film by the way. Probably my top film of the year so far, along with the Taste of Tea.

Oh, should release this month. Much earlier than Lady Vengeance.

OK, Korean release of Tony Takitani confirmed for November 27.

English Subs, a 67 Minutes making of documentary, 50 minutes of interviews and other extras. Sounds like a port of the Japanese DVD?

  7. Fabool 11/14/2005 @ 8:23pm

    Indeed it does.

However the audio should confirm it, the Japanese one has a LPCM Stereo track. If this release has that, it’s mostly definetly a straight port.

  8. x 11/14/2005 @ 9:04pm

    DD5.1, LPCM 2.0

  9. Fabool 11/14/2005 @ 10:19pm

Even a DD 5.1 track? That’s pretty peculiar - especially for a drama like this, which won’t really gain anything from it.

In any case, sounds good and I’m going to get it over the pricier japanese release smile

    Thanks for the info x!

Up at dvdfromkorea.com! A much nicer cover than the R1 and the price is right. No mention about LPCM audio but suddenly I don’t even mind if it’s a port or not - great price and nice packaging, not to mention the quality of the film make this a must-buy for me.

they’ll almost never say LPCM but just DD2.0. But usually it’s LPCM, at least for Japanese titles.

Does the documentary of korean version includes english subtitle ?
