Todd: A cartilege donor has been found!!!

This seemed liked as good a time as any to bring up a very important issue for the staff here at Twitch. Our humble leader and founder of this fine web site, Todd, will be undergoing surgery next week. It is nothing serious nor life-threatening but this should also explain his absence in the coming weeks as he recovers.

You see, Todd was born with webbed hands. He doesn’t talk about it much but over the years I have managed to find out that webbed hands is very similar to webbed feet, or Syndactyly, the fusion, or “webbing”, of two digits or phalanges. However, as rare as it is, the digits in Todd’s hands are webbed. Thanks to a great health care system Todd’s parents managed to get him into some fantastic physiotherapy when he was young and he learned to live with his… condition. Pictured left you will see a picture of a younger Todd with custom designed foam gloves. The gloves were made for numerous reasons. The obvious was too protect him from gawkers and mockers who simply didn’t have the capacity to relate with the emotionally and physically wrought child. It was also meant for everyone else’s protection as Todd with flail his limbs about wildly and as you can see, no one wanted to get hit by those doozies.

So why talk about it now? Well, after years of searching for a compatible donor it seems that Todd and his family have found someone with the same cartilege, based on its genetic structure. Todd will undergo surgery early next week. Portions of his webbed hands will be removed and the donor cartilege will be used to help the cosmetic surgeons rebuild Todd’s hands. Then begins the weeks of painful recovery as he learns to use his new hands.

Todd is one of the most brave people I have every known. It has been difficult at times sticking it out with him, his mood swings and limb flailing, but everyone close to him has done so out of love. Please remember Todd in your thoughts and prayers this coming week as he undergoes this dramatic transformation. And the rest of the staff here at Twitch will do what we can to bring up the slack while he recovers and learns to type with his new hands.
