THE WATCHER IN THE ATTIC Trailer

Okay, a little bit of history.  In the early 1970’s, recognizing that the Japanese film industry was changing and that their previous formulae for generating hit films was no longer cutting it, Nikkatsu Studios - Japan’s oldest film production house - switched their entire studio over to producing nothing but a new genre of picture they labeled Roman Porno films.  Highly sexual - though nowhere close to what we’d consider hard core pornography - these titles actually drew a fair amount of ‘legitimate’ talent to them thanks to the high levels of freedom the studio gave their creators and the results were often some incredibly well made and unusual pictures.

Nikkatsu’s Roman Porno output has been largely unseen in the west, known only to film cultists and tape traders for years but that’s about to change with news that cult DVD distributor Mondo Macabro have picked up a block of six of these titles for release in North America with the first of them, The Watcher In The Attic due to arrive in October.  For those unfamiliar with the title - which I would suspect is most of you - I recommend the Midnight Eye review of it but what you need to know in brief is that this is based on a story by legendary author Edogawa Rampo from director Noboru Tanaka, considered one of the leading directors of the time.  Need to know more?  We’ve got the trailer in the Twitch Player below the break.

Viewer discretion on this one, people, it’s explicit.

Proud owner of the OOP R2. Nice to see it coming back...hopefully with a better transfer.

I’m glad rape movies are making a return to Twitch. I was concerned since Sheldon’s departure that rape movies weren’t getting the attention they deserve but Todd comes to rescue again
