As anyone who lives here will tell you, Toronto is a town absolutely glutted with specialty film festivals, often with several different niche fests running simultaneously.  But even in all the noise of competing festivals the young Over the Top stands out.  It does so partly because it is not just a film festival, also focusing on other arts - this year my local fave band Rock Plaza Central are doing a gig as part of the festival - and also because the film programming focuses on more unusual and challenging stuff.  Well, this year’s official launch announcement just came out and, once again, they’ve got a stellar lineup.  There’s a double bill of Crispin Glover’s films, with Glover in attendance, some music video programming, and Twitch is proud to present a screening of Adam Wingard’s Pop Skull.  Read on for the full announcement!

The *Over The Top Festival* is taking over downtown Toronto this spring with its most diverse line-up to date. This entirely all ages music and arts festival will be running April 30 through May 4th at select venues, which includes film premieres, rare musical performances and exciting theatrical productions. Each year the festival continues to grow, having started with just three events seven years ago and now it numbers nearly three dozen.

The 2008 musical line-up features a number of exclusive performances, that includes a rare solo show by Of Montreal front man and principal songwriter, Kevin Barnes, an acoustic performance by Rock Plaza Central, the introduction of former Inbreds songwriter Mike O’Neil’s new act the Beginners, an appearance by psych innovators Silver Apples and a record release for 70’s psych proto-punks Simply Saucer. Many other exciting acts have been confirmed for the event, and can be viewed on our website, http://www.overthetopfest.com/2008.

Over The Top is also excited to offer the international premiere of the film “I Think We’re Alone Now,” which follows the lives of Jeff and Kelly, who have been labeled stalkers by the media and other Tiffany fans. This film takes you inside the lonely lives these two people, revealing the source of their clinging obsessions. Equal parts creepy and sympathetic, you won’t see another film like I Think We’re Alone Now all year. Director Sean Donnelly will be in attendance for a Q&A session.

Over The Top is proud to announce the Canadian premiere of Crispin Glover’s, “It Is Fine: EVERYTHING IS FINE!” Which is the second part of the It trilogy. We will also be screening “What Is It?” The first film of the trilogy and Crispin will be performing his traveling Slide Show to be followed by a Q&A session.

Very cool indeed. Actually I know Eric Warner who puts it on. He’s a standup guy who just happens to also be ballin’ outta control.
