Don’t know Joe Shishido?  Then you’ve missed out on some of Japan’s true classic films.  The man was one of Japan’s biggest stars through the sixties and seventies and is best known on these shores for starring in a number of films directed by Seijun Suzuki, most notably Branded To Kill.  Full of swagger and undeniable charisma Shishido was a natural on screen and casts a simply huge shadow over Japanese films of that period.  He’s worked fairly steadily ever since but not really in anything most people would know of for quite a while but he’s coming back to the screen soon in fine style ...

Back in 1963 Shishido starred in a film titled Detective Bureau 2-3: Go To Hell Bastards, part of an ongoing series of heavily noir influenced films that ran for years and many installments in Japan.  Recently revived as Detective Office 5 the series is back on screens and Shishido will be appearing in the latest offering:  Codebreaker 507: The Shanghai Waltz.  No trailer yet but the website is up and running and the film slated for release this year so keep an eye open ...
