Quick-Draw Okatsu
Buzz film of the year? In the international horror crowd it certainly is, talk of Pascal Laugier’s Martyrs growing steadily since it first screened in the Cannes Market with the world at large taking notice once it was anounced to be part of the Toronto International Film Festival. We posted the first two official teasers some time back and now the full theatrical trailer has arrived and it’s not hard to see why people are talking. It’s not just that it’s bloody - which it is - or that the violence is directed against women - also true - but that it feels uncomfortably realistic. LAugier isn’t really glossing it up here, instead he’s dreaming up a horrific situation and playing it out with truly uncomfortable realism.
You’ll find the new trailer and the first two teasers in the Twitch Player below the break.

Very excited to see this. Stylish trailer: a lot of grit and grime. Got to love this French ultra violence. Though after reading all the reviews and the Weinstein factor I can’t imagine _Martyrs_ will do anything Stateside other than festival runs and the obligatory dump to dvd. Ah well… one can always hope.

I don’t know if I do anything buy think about Martyrs. It goes through my mind on a daily basis. I’m just curious. Sure if it’s good, AWESOME. If not, it doesn’t change the fact that I feel the need to see it. It has some elements that are truly frightening to me. Some of the screen shots of the tortured women are the scariest I’ve ever seen. Yikes.

This is currently near the top of my “must-see” list. I love the atmosphere and the back-story, which in a lot of ways reminds me of The Nameless. Unfortunately I doubt this will make it to the UK cinemas…
