Cue excited squealing from Kurt in five ... four ... three ... two ...

Belgian director Erik Van Looy made a huge splash on the international scene with his taut, intelligent thriller The Alzheimer Case (AKA The Memory of a Killer) a few years back and now Van Looy is back and crushing the local box office with his new psycho sexual thriller Loft, which is currently pulling in more than half of all film business in his native Belgium.

Five married men share a secret: a spacious loft, in which they can quietly receive and entertain their lovers and latest conquests. It’s a great deal until, one winter morning, they discover the body of a young woman. No one knows who she is or how she got there. When the five try to find out what happened and why, they soon begin to suspect one another. It also becomes clear that they know far less about each other than they initially thought.

Smart, stylish and, yes, sexy - the trailers embedded below would be definite red-banders here in North America for both blood and lady-parts - this looks every bit as impressive as Van Looy’s breakthrough film.  You’ll find two full trailers and a brief ten second tease below the break in the Twitch Player.

    Squeal.  Awesome.

Sadly, the film isn’t all that great. Though I wasn’t a big fan of Alzheimer either. Too slick, rather badly acted and a boring, see-through “storyline of twists” makes this a rather lengthy theater experience. Film is nicely shot though, I’ll give him that.
