It’s been hard to bite my tongue on this but the word is now officially out and I am free to spread the word.  The official lineup for the 2008 edition of the Worldwide Short Film Festival here in Toronto has been officially announced and, while I am hugely biased, I say there is some stellar stuff in there.  How biased am I?  Well, I programmed the Midnight programs (Creepy and Freaky) as well as helping secure a couple of Asian spotlights.  Included in my midnight slots are the North American debuts of a few films we’ve talked about at length here, including German genre bender KINGZ, Patrik Syversen’s Utkant, David Morley’s Morsure, Sam Jorgensen’s Katie’s Journey, and Mexican vagina dentata film Cosita Linda plus a whole lot more.  The specialty programs?  The complete set of Thai shorts commissioned to commemorate the King of Thailand’s eightieth birthday - a series that includes new work by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Wisit Sasanatieng and Pen-Ek Ratanaruang.  The other?  Genius Party.  All of it.  Yes, kids, we’ve got both complete volumes of Studio 4C’s Genius Party coming to Toronto.

And that’s just my stuff ... there’s a LOT more coming and the lineup looks stellar.  Tickets are available now.

Congratulations on landing the Thai short films. It’ll be the first time the entire package has shown outside Thailand.
