Well, if you’ve been wondering where we’ll have the first crack at the long cut of Jet Li’s Fearless, keep your eyes on Thailand. The locals reportedly were a little irked when they learned that the fight sequences involving the Thai fighter - who was prominently featured on the Thai billboards - had been removed from the theatrical release in Hong Kong and, as a result, Thailand will be screening the original, longer cut of the film which not only reinserts the Thai character but also Michelle Yeoh.
Now, will the eventual Thai DVD release of the long cut include English subtitles? It’s unlikely but at least we know where to watch for it now. And in related news, the listings for the Hong Kong DVD release have been altered and no longer list English subtitles on the disc. Looks like Rogue pulled some strings to have them removed, which is a bit of a surprise considering they raised no objections to Danny The Dog (aka Unleashed) getting a very nice Hong Kong DVD release prior to its North American debut.

Man that’s BS. The DVD’s not gonna have subs? I won’t be buying the damn thing then. This is ridiculous.

I saw it today. NO Micheal Yeoh.

No Michelle, but the scene with Somluck Kamsing is intact, and it’s a good one - it really adds to the story and Jet Li’s character development. Just about five minutes long, it comes in the middle of his stay in the country village, and it also helps break up some of the “touching” moments that come as Jet’s character is coming to grips with his spirituality. I don’t understand why they didn’t just leave it in.
The film prints in Thailand are all Thai-dubbed with English subtitles at some cinemas. The dubbing is pretty well done. It’s a Buena Vista release here, and they usually do a good job with dubbing.
I’ll be curious to see what they come up with for a DVD release. In Thailand, it might simply be a Thai-only VCD release - but I really do not know. Just speculating. Thanks for the link, by the way.
