Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion
When Tartan released their poster for Chan Wook Park’s Old Boy it left me a bit underwhelmed. It wasn’t horrible by any stretch but to my mind it didn’t catch the flavor of the film. This one though? Zowie. Very, very nice. Black Film’s got it all nice and big-like.

I like it, but what’s with that tagline? “Revenge was never this sweet”? Makes the movie sound like a fun little romp rather than the gutpunching tragedy it really is.

While it’s an ok poster, perhaps a bit generic with the layout, I don’t think it fits this particular movie too well. I can’t really associate the color scheme with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, most likely due to the main characters hair color which is completely absent here.
The poster also tries to push the film too much as a big, blockbuster-type movie, which it isn’t, in my opinion. The first thing that springs to mind when quickly glancing the poster is Infernal Affairs.

It’s aesthetically pleasing out of context in my opinion, but this makes it seem like this is a one-way struggle between Song Kang-Ho’s character and Shin Ha-Kyun’s and Bae Doo-na’s. I’d have to say the tagline is the worst thing about the poster.
Still not as bad as the U.S. oldboy poster.

Bae Doo-na is a hottie, and like evergreen said the poster is fine out of context… i thought the UK and Korean posters gave away to much about the film anyway so i dont mind this at all…
