The star of Hong Sang-Soo’s 여자는 남자의 미래다 (Woman is The Future of Man), Sung Hyun-Ah, will make her return to the big screen this coming August 18, in the horror film 첼로 (Cello). The film is her first leading role after years of small roles and cameo appearances. Sung commented on her latest film, and her thirst for acting:

“I really worried more about whether the film would be really scary than this being my first leading role. I’ve never been able to watch horror films in the past, because I was too scared. But go figure, now that I shot one I’m not scared at all. The moment we ended the shoot I went back and watched as many horror films as I could.
There’s a strong Korean feeling to the film. There’s a lot of Korean films similar to Japanese Horror films (in regards to ghosts and how they appear), but this is completely different.
Shooting 주홍글씨 (The Scarlet Letter), looking at pools of blood I was sort of worried about starting this film. I can’t really describe that feeling. But I couldn’t avoid it here...I felt really weird. This time I sent photos of my “blood make up” to friends, jokingly.
As I keep doing this job, I get more and more into it, and my thirst
for acting increases, I can feel it. It’s the same while shooting: in the past when the Director would say OK, I felt content with the scene and moved on. With this film it’s different, I wanted to continue even with that OK sign. I constantly find myself wanting to improve, do better than the past film, and it’s the same with my choices of films. I worked really hard and did my best for this film, but I want to do even more for my next one.”
