Nobody else managed to entirely be sure what we do with this one, a spot from late last week that another of the recent Asano projects is coming late July 2006 on DVD in Japan : Product Code is DC-0002 for ’Umoregi‘. None of the listing I’ve seen say English Subtitles - infact, beginning to wonder if we have a ’shoot self in foot‘ situation cos so many Asano films usually hit with subtitles, but in the last year or so the number without at least feels as thought it has decreased - and the DVD itself is issued by Shochiku Home Entertainment, there’s no clear email address which we can hit them at. Shame, anyone spot one at the Official Site below? stick it in the comments and I will edit this post. Until then, just note that this is coming out way and may turn out to have subs in the end, and we would then feel a little better - the film looks great in the trailer, has had a great reaction in reviews too.

There is a contact page you can use:

    http://www.shochikufilms.com/contact/index.php

Not has handy as an email address, but the message should still get through.

This address might work; it seems to be a general purpose contact with their international sales division…

I found an email for the distribution end of Shochiku after digging around the site with google translator. The response they sent me follows: “Mr,Shaun xxx

Excuse me ,but there are not English subtitles to DVD(umoregi=bogwood) ofrelease on July 29.

    Thank you for an inguiry.”

So, there we have it. A definitive answer. Can we hope for another release anytime soon by any other distribution companies? The trailer, at least, looks pretty beautiful.

shaun - thats why i mention ‘point gun at foot, pull trigger’ : we never imagined that by trying to make some of these slightly more obscure films more upfront that it could potentially be encouraging earlier licensing to the point where we inadvertantly get japanese releases that could easily be predicted to contain subs suddenly appearing without them… i suspect its been licensed by someone in the states.

I’ve been waiting for this movie. Too bad about it not being subtitled. Does anyone know if it is being released in any other regions where it “might” have English subtitles. I’ll check back here every now and then.
