Now I’m starting to recover from all those reviews, here’s a little bit of nice news all may not have tuned into - the entire Stand Alone Complex on DVD for £30. Not a dodgy bootleg boxset, a nice official R2 UK one from Manga which effectively collects together all those single-discs editions you could have bought for well over £100 over the last 18 months or so (in the USA or in the UK - same discs as far as I know). There’s also a tin with all the 2-disc editions, but that one’s a little more money and doesn’t come in any cheaper than the tin issued for Amazon.com in America for something like $120. Anyhow - this is what anime should be, well animated and scripted. Stunning.
‘Stand Alone Complex’ R2 UK DVD Boxset (7 Discs) due November 15th 2005, listing at Amazon.co.uk.

This really is a bargain, especially considering that this is one of the better anime series as of late. I’m just wondering if Manga/Bandai bothered to fix the small glitches with some of the discs (badly timed subs, etc).
Now, if every new series was released at this price point.. mmhh.

Did anyone else’s boxset arrive? Mine just did today, but.. the character voices and music seema bit higher in tone than usual. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Mine arrived yesterday (Along with Nathan Barley, whee!) and I watched the first disc. I’m really happy with it. It sounds like you may be referring to the effects of the PAL speedup, Gabriel. PAL accelerates things slightly over NTSC (8%, I think) and it can have a noticable effect on audio tones, which is why most audiophiles vastly prefer NTSC releases. But you really can’t argue with this for the price ...

I’m actually considering getting this again, even though it has some problems with the discs (just got a £5 voucher for play.com and there’s not much else to get on R2UK..). But I just don’t know..
From what I’ve read, there’s some nasty pixelation in some episodes. Manga at least bothered to fix the audio tracks but a forum post confirmed that they only slightly improved the subtitle timing and they are still somewhat out-of-sync. Plus there’s some typos, a few mistranslated meanings, and some really hideous subtitles on disc 5.
