There really aren’t a lot of people that the term ‘legendary’ can legitimately be applied to but Stan Winston was one of them.  The man was a god amongst effects men, creating models and creatures for countless films that have filled my dreams since I was just a kid.  AliensTerminatorJurassic Park. Edward Scissorhands.  All Stan Winston.  And now the man is gone, having passed away from cancer yesterday evening.  We’ll miss you.

I’m speechless.  I didn’t know he had cancer.  This is a huge loss.  Wow.  R.I.P.

He was my idol as a kid/ teenager.

His creations were stellar and I always looked forward to each upcoming film or magazine he featured in.
I just can’t imagine a visual effects world without Stan.

I don’t wanna watch another Terminator or Jurassic Park without knowing Stan was there to oversee each creature.

    This is awful.

    He will be missed.

I can’t thank Stan Winston enough for capturing my childhood imagination with such awe and wonder.  He’ll will be sorely missed.

    This stuns me a bit.

He was one of those people I expected to be around for at least another 20 years, passing sage advice to new artists. I really hoped to be able to meet him one day.

    Sad news indeed.

Really tragic news.  A great loss to the world of practical effects and in general.  Sorry to see the man go so soon.

Very shocking and tragic news. Seeing his name attached to a movie was a guarantee that there would be some great fx even if the movie wasn’t up to scratch. If anyone hasn’t had a chance to read it yet, there is an ongoing, fitting tribute at AICN.

He sure did keep his illness a secret as he was working almost till the day he died. Truly terrible news. Rest in peace.
