SPACED ON STAGE / SPACED MARATHON - BFI SOUTHBANK, LONDON NOVEMBER 10TH
“Spaced was a delight – a funny, flamboyant, innovative sitcom that demonstrated there was much life left in the oft-maligned genre. With the writers doubling as the central performers, the artful scripts were brilliantly brought to life. The show also had a unique style, being shot like a modern horror movie with fast zooms, jump cuts and disorientating edits. A complex masterpiece that enriched the schedules and emerged triumphantly as one of the first great comedies of the 21st Century.”

Two singletons pose as a couple in order to rent a desirable flat, but real romantic sparks flash between them – a traditional enough premise for a farfrom- trad sitcom that borrowed from horror flicks and comic books to develop a visual identity all its own. Wright’s flamboyant style perfectly complemented the artful comedy of Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson to create something truly distinctive and utterly of its time. Both series are showing here in a marathon all-day screening.
