Yes, this is ultimately inconsequential when compared with the much more serious causes of the news but you can’t help but feel bad for Terry Gilliam.  Word is that his latest, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has been shut down in the wake of star Heath Ledger’s death.  The film had apparently completed its London-set location shooting and was in the midst of moving to Vancouver for green screen work when Ledger passed, with none of the more complicated effects-based work shot.  Apparently the entire Vancouver crew have been laid off and nobody is saying if or when they will be recalled. From the sounds of this they were pretty much in the mid point of the work they needed Ledger for which leaves producers in a tough spot:  they can either re-cast the part and start again pretty much from scratch, re-doing all of his location shooting which would send production costs skyrocketing, or they can shut down and hope their insurance policies will cover the losses.

Or they could get a new actor and use green screen to put him in the scenes where Heath was before. I doubt any actor would want to do that but it is a possibility.

Replacing Heath Ledger would be wrong, and I think Gilliam knows that.

Hopefully with the influence of I’m Not There, he’ll keep the scenes shot with Heath in, and somehow work around the rest of the film with someone else.

Actually seeing the images of Heath Ledger being hung in the film, maybe he should be replaced by a new actor. I don’t think people would appreciate seeing Ledger on a noose a few months after his death. :|

Heath Ledger overdosing is not 9/11, our delicate sensibilities do not require protection from this tragedy.  (Protection from the coverage of the tragedy, we could perhaps use.)  Have we become so pussified since the release of THE CROW, starring a man who was shot and killed on the actual movie set itself, getting “shot and killed” in the film?

It’s the nightmare of any director or studio. But i have an idea, why not use Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a stand-in,he looks a bit like Ledger.

Johnny Depp is being considered to pick up half of Ledger’s role. there is a point in the film where Ledger goes through a mirror and becomes a different character…the idea is that the role will be played by dual actors…

the part where Brandon Lee was actually killed is not in the film…that stuff was burned.

if someone died making something it would be worse if that something were not ultimately used…essentially increasing the pointlessness of that person’s death unless by their and their family’s tradgedy film crew safety has improved…

we have not become “pussified” we have become ‘dickified” or more gay oriented.
please don’t associate female anatomy with the problems in male society…i assume women are never called the euphemistic “pussy” for coward…and i assume the female population is not included when people are being “pussyfied” so pussyfication is an exclusive insult towards men. you want protection turn off the TV, use a rock, there are alot of classic films with deceased actors…what is the difference? what is the difference if we watch it now or later?
