Oh. My.

We’ve been anticipating Sergei Bodrov’s Mongol - the epic scaled Russian produced Genghis Khan bio-pic starring Tadanobu Asano - for what feels like forever now and while a lengthy period of anticipation often leads to disappointment this one just gets better the more we see of it.  And there’s a lot more to see now, a six minute scene having just appeared online.  The scene features an odd bit of Russian overdubbing - a uniquely Russian way of handling foreign language content - and is also English subtitled but while that overdub may be a bit distracting everything else is positively stunning.  This is the opening of a major battle sequence and we get to see the scope of the picture, the detail of the production design and we get a first taste of the fight style employed in the film.  Amazing.  Absolutely amazing.

I’ve been a little curious about this movie, being that I have seen many many movies with Tadanobu Asano and all of them were good.
The violence looked good.  I also liked seeing the horse fall down face-first(I wonder if a horse actually got hurt for that).  It’s really hard to tell how the movie will be based on this action scene.  It could simply be something like Hero or House of Flying Daggers… pretty to look at but shallow in the way of plot and characters.

I don’t normally watch the preview scenes for movies but with this it was like i had no choice and it didn’t disappoint! :D

Must be a different House Of Flying Daggers than I saw, the one I saw was pretty good for plot and characters (no not great, but good).
All the love and betrayal thing, you know.
