Sigh. The international sales agent for Robin Hardy’s upcoming Wicker Man sequel has been saying for months now that the financing for the film was all in place and that everything was on track for a spring start to production. Which was very good news, marking as it does Hardy’s return to the big screen for the first time in far too long and giving fans of the original Wicker Man a little something to wash the bad taste of the remake out of their mouths. According to the BBC production of the film has been canceled outright on the ever of shooting thanks to a lack of financing dollars, with cast and crew receiving notice that their services will not be required after all. Whoopsie. Think someone would’ve noticed that the money wasn’t actually there a little bit before now ...

Making a sequel 30+ years after the fact seems to be stretching it. I loved the original, but has Hardy done anything since then to convince us that this would be a good idea? Also forgive me for making this judgement, as I haven’t seen The Fantasist. Though, I’m not sure paganism has frightened people much nowadays as it had back then. Aw, hell. Who am I kidding? Of course it does. BBC: greenlight this fucker.
