Well it seems the overall success of Rian Johnson’s stellar debut film, the teen-noir “Brick” (Twitch Review) has made his stock in Hollywood circles rise dramatically.  His new film, a con-man drama with noir overtones, “The Brothers Bloom,” has not started shooting yet, but many talented folks have come aboard, including Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, and Rinko Kichuchi.  Say what you will about the muddled “Babel”, Kichuchi and her thread of the story is the most compelling of the three.  She’s got more than enough presence for a femme fatale.  Weisz has done neo-noir before with “Confidence” as has Brody in the re-make of “The Singing Detective”:

‘A pair of con-men, related by blood, the younger of whom falls for one of their marks.’

Shooting will take place later this year.

Judging by that log line and the film Brick, this will another completely unoriginal retread of cliches, buoyed only by pointless stylistic excess.  Kind of a shame brody, weisz, and kikuchi, all fine actors, are attached to this.

Style for styles sake (which is not what BRICK is, BTW) is OK too…

I didn’t really like Brick I must admit, I wanted to but the majority of the time it just confused me, maybe Its too intelligent of a movie for me…
