Death Note: The Last Name
Yes, these are promo videos for a book release and, as such, technically a bit outside of our scope but they’re GOOD promos for a book released by an author I love who is also increasingly working as a screen writer and until Extinction Event starts shooting this is as close as we’re going to get to the screen-Coupland.
Anyway. Douglas Coupland’s The Gum Thief has just released - and should be arriving at my door soon - and production house Crush have been commissioned to create a series of video clips based on read excerpts from the novel. And the clips are very, very cool.

1/2 way thru the novel and boy is it a breath of fresh air after the muck of JPOD (may that novel rot in hell). I much prefer Mr. Coupland when he is operating in downbeat Elenor Rigby/Hey Nostradamus/MissWyoming mode than the upbeat mode of JPOD/Microserfs/ShampooPlanet.
Apocalyptic meditations on Death and the infinite of the universe thru the aisles of big-box stores told as a gigantic riff on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Oh Yes. Yummy.
