More CG animated films is being produce lately and its not just from Pixar or Dreamworks animation anymore but from other studios that are begining to catch on to this popular trend. Among these obsure studios is Ilion Animation Studios from Spain which is currently in pre-production for Planet One with a budget of 50 million US. This will be the studio’s first theatrical release animation. There is a couple of stills at the studio’s site to check out. Here is the synopsis taken from their site:
A young inhabitant of Planet One, Lem, thinks that space can be wonderful, but he lacks the courage to even move out of his parents’ basement. Then one day, out of the sky, an alien ship appears with something funny written on it: NASA. It is piloted by astronaut and ladies man, Captain Russ Baker. Russ had expected to plant the American Flag on a baron planet, only to land at someone’s backyard barbecue.
Now Captain Russ Baker’s new friend, Lem, must keep him safe from the fearful authorities and help him recover his confiscated ship to get back home.
The film is slated for release in the first quarter of 2008. Its too early to really pass judgement on it but base on the story and the stills on their site, I’m already hooked. I might have to keep my eyes peel for it down the road.

Agreed. Those stills are quite impressive. I love the “set design.”
