Ooooh ... a regular reader of the site managed to find his way on to the Boston set of Martin Scorsese’s Infernal Affairs remake The Departed last week and he snapped us a few shots and shot a bit of video of Scorsese working with the film’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio. Thanks to Don for these ...
“Hey, big fan of the site. I go to Emerson College here in Boston and I managed to catch something half way exciting today that is up y’all alley. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio were in town today shooting scenes for The Departed and I got to watch for about an hour and a half. As a huge fan of Infernal Affairs I was pretty damn excited. It was a big public shoot on Charles St (which is on the edge of the Boston Common). They had an army of PAs blocking off the block they were on but I was able to sneak into a nearby alley to watch, which happened to be the same alley Leo (did I actually just say Leo?) was walking into for the scene! I was pleasantly surprised to see that he was looking pretty damn bulked up for the role and looked a lot more appropriate for the role than I had anticipated. We exchanged some semi-akward eye contact after every take (as My Roomate and I were the only people in the alley not working on the film) but that’s as far as my interaction with the stars went. I talked to one of the PAs for a while who confirmed that all of the interiors were being shot in NY but was unable to confirm my questions about Nicholson’s rumored prosthetic penis so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I did manage to get a few shots of ‘em during the shoot, but they are a far cry from fantastic. I also have some video of Scorsese giving DiCaprio direction that I’ll upload eventually (those shots are much closer/clearer). Anyway, like I said nothing huge but I thought you guys might be interested to hear about it. Keep up the good work!”

who cares? why is scorsese remaking something better than his last 5 movies?
dave/web-monkey 08/31/2005 @ 8:06pm
Umm.. because making something shittier would be even worse?

i’m sorry; i’m just being hostile. I watched Scorsese films religiously up to Casino and I am just so disappointed in him now ESPECIALLY since he is remaking a HK film—and I turned to HK films precisely because Scorsese and his ilk had let me down and bored me—AND he’s doing it for a studio that has done nothing but butcher and hurt HK films in America

Warner Brothers butchers HK films?

Go, man! It’s great that you actually saw Leo and even better, took pictures of him! Thank you, and I know I’m talkin’ for all his fans when I say this. I have a feeling that “The Departed” is gonna be a great movie. I really hope Leo will get an Oscar for this one - although he should have got one for “The Aviator” too - wasn’t he great in it? He’s so talented! And I know he’ll make a great movie out of this one too! Please get more photos of him, Boston fan!

I think Scorsese is a great director but since he hooked up DiCaprio he sucks! Leo can ruin a great movie. Too bad scorsese doesn’t find real talent and leave the 2nd rate actor to shagging the supermodels and pretending to be an environmentalist (thats for you missy).
dave/web-monkey 09/02/2005 @ 1:27pm
regardless of his home in mainstream cinema - I would hardly call someone who’s been nominated for an Academy Award (twice!) a 2nd rate actor.
Leo regardless of how much you’re “sick” of seeing him around, and how cool or uncool it is to like or dislike someone who’s in the spotlight a lot, doesn’t change his talent level one bit. After Basketball Diaries and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, I’ll never say Leo can’t act.
And as far as movie execs go, since Leo’s name will bring in millions of dollars, they’ll tell you he CAN’T ruin a great movie.

Lets not forget. Leo has NEVER won an oscar nor has Scorsese… ENOUGH SAID!

Anyone else having problems viewing the video?
remaker 09/03/2005 @ 3:08am
who says the academy’s decision is anything more than a reward for a good sex scene?
pankie 09/25/2005 @ 2:01am
kubrick, welles, and scorsese. No Academy awards between. Can we trust the academy? Nope. These awards mean next to nothing.
