Pang Bros Remaking Pang Bros: BANGKOK DANGEROUS Trailer

The ever-informative Kaiju Shakedown tells us that there’s now a trailer for the Pang brothers’ remake of their own Bangkok Dangerous, and ...

... it’s in Spanish!

Nicolas Cage still looks like a constipated deer in the headlights, except he sports long hair a la Tom “Da Vinci Code” Hanks. The trailer is vintage Pang slickness, but will this be the movie that makes us forgive the Pangs for The Eye 10 and Re-Cycle and Cage for The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider?

Thanks for the heads up, Visitor. Actually, I kinda liked RE-CYCLE. It seemed unsure of itself, whether it was a fantasy, a horror, or a family film, but it mostly worked, thanks to the cinematography and good effects. It was certainly better than THE EYE 10, although I missed THE EYE, parts 3-9.

In reference to the trailer, I can only say that it looks interesting. Sort of. I did see Charlie Yeung, though, and that’s definitely a plus. She’s adorable.

wow, didn’t even know this was coming. Can’t view the trailer at work but looking forward to checking it out later…

i’m with sarkoffagus.. i rather enjoyed RE-CYCLE. Aside from the slow start i really enjoyed the fantasy world in it. Haven’t seen Eye 10 but of course enjoyed The Eye and even The Eye 2 to an extent.

Also for me RE-CYCLE wasnt so bad movie, it was nice to watch fantasy world inside it even if sometimes it was a little boring world and unsure what should it be.

Anyway, I dont think that new movie from Pang brothers will let us forgive their mistakes, I even think that it could be another one. But there always can be a surprise.

wow. I’m very impressed. It looks like a hard boiled Pang Bros film...and it stars Nick Cage!? Good career move on his part.

How can I take this seriously when Nic Cage is in it?

It’s giving me a headache just thinking about it.

Never mind RE-CYCLE and EYE, can the Pangs redeem themselves after the utterly pedestrian and hackneyed The Messengers?

  7. wisekwai 02/12/2008 @ 11:38am

    Pangs recycling Pangs.

It was shot in Bangkok in 2006, and is going to be kicking around for awhile longer yet. It has apparently been postponed for summer release, which should boost its profile a bit.

Best way to approach this is to not have any expectations whatsoever.

The dream of every director.Making the same movie with a bigger star and budget.

ICK. This has none of the panache or even vibe of the original. Sure it looks slick, but slick comes with bucks. That’s not indicative of style or ability, particularly.

I saw the original at TIFF and it was BRILLIANT (the directors were in attendance and extremely shy). I can’t see any resemblance to the first film at all. This is just another hard boiled, John Woo rip off (and why bother with that) and Cage is a mouth breather and always will be.

Perhaps a good move for Cage, but not a great one for the Pangs. Too bad.

Nic Cage should had retired 10 years ago, i can’t think of a more annoying actor to watch these days.

the pain, the pain, the pain…
Is it just me? I don’t get it.
remakes. directors remaking their own films.
I don’t get the Pang Bros.
they’ve visual style to burn, but, little else.
It has all been downhill since the original bangkok dangerous and the eye.

  12. Gandalf Mantooth 02/14/2008 @ 2:12am

It’s been delayed because it isn’t testing well. kidlazarus is right about them having flashy skillz but not much else, though with the original of this flash was enough.

I think Cage is trying to corner the market on Asian film remakes. I see him doing an Oldboy remake and oh . . . Versus. Why not? Kitamura is in Hollywoof, he can do it himself.

  13. kidlazarus 02/14/2008 @ 12:10pm

I probably shouldn’t be as harsh on them as I am; but, you try to suffer through the dialogue in Tesseract.
After Re-Cycle I haven’t bothered with anything they’re involved with. They might be a case of being far too prolific for their own good. They’re churning stuff out with little regard in terms of overall quality.
I do find Bangkok Dangerous and The Eye to be superior works by them. After that, for me, it’s been all style over substance.
What has the word been on Detective and In Love with the Dead?

  14. sarkoffagus 02/14/2008 @ 12:53pm

I can’t find anything about DETECTIVE and IN LOVE WITH THE DEAD. I’m renting them from online, so maybe I could write something about them later, in case anyone cares.

  15. kidlazarus 02/14/2008 @ 2:35pm

I’ve seen reviews of Detective and In Love with the Dead on LoveHKFilm.com http://www.lovehkfilm.com/index.htm

I’ll be interested in seeing other takes on thses movies are.

With regard to the Bangkok Dangerous remake I’ll always remember wisekwai’s remark: “Best way to approach this is to not have any expectations whatsoever.”

    That is classic.
