So, while enjoying the Italian countryside at the Udine Far East Film Festival I posted a very rushed and hurried note that the first teaser for Tetsuya Nakashima’s Paco And The Magical Picture Book had arrived online but due to time constraints - I had less than a minute of net time left - I wasn’t able to offer up any additional observations.  So now that time is not so limited, here we go.  Nakashima is the director of technicolor opuses Kamikaze Girls and Memories of Matsuko, a pair of films with a great many fans around here.  Nakashima is one of Japan’s most distinctive directors and certainly one of the most visually distinctive in the world.  His latest is a children’s oriented fantasy revolving around a sick young girl retreating into a fantasy world with the help of the titular picture book, the cast including acclaimed names such as Koji Yakusho and Ryo Kase plus Nakashima’s Kamikaze Girls star Anna Tsuchaiya, though you wouldn’t know it if they weren’t credited thanks to incredible extensive make up jobs.

Anyway ... the teaser has arrived and is now in the Twitch Player.  You can check it out below the break.

So ... looks like Anna Tsuchiya plays a nurse with heavy mascara ... nice smile

Speaking of Anna and technicolor visuals ... I just finally got to watch Mika Ninagawa’s Sakuran (almost in perfect timing with the cherry blossom season) ... how delightfull ... a real treat ...

yeah, Sakuran is beautiful!  A good argument for getting an all region player.

I purchased the Taiwanese DVD since it was cheaper than any of the Japanese ones but it’s a very nice set/package all the same.
