The Hollywood remake of Oldboy is old news by now, but what about the Bollywood one?  Yep, it’s coming.  It’s called Zinda and it’s being made by the same director who made a Bollywood version of Reservoir Dogs that so angered the locals that they threatened to release venomous snakes into any theater that screened it.  I’m not making that up.  I find something about the idea of the hallway fight turning into a song and dance number strangely appealing.  God bless you, Sanjay Gupta.

The official website is just a poster at the moment but you can find it here.

Thanks to Tom for the pointer.

Isn’t it bad enough that this movie we’ll eventually be remade by a second rate director like Justin Lin! Now we have another remake by the director of Kaante - the “supposedly” Bollywood version of Reservoir Dogs - which was atrociously bad.

Hmmm...in another online post, it is claimed that Zinda is, and I quote, “a Bollywood take on Tony Scott’s Denzel Washington starrer MAN ON FIRE.”

Also, I came across another post stating that the movie was shot in Bangkok....which raises the possiblity of a “Man on Fire” remake vs. “Oldboy.”

Ek Ajanbee is the Bollywood take on Man on Fire, not this one.

How typical of you film snobs. Anything Hollywood does you scream and bitch about, but when another film industry does the exact same thing, you “find it appealing”.

Stupid film snobs. This is why people spit on your kind in the streets and shun you into dark corners of the Internet. (Say like this site.)

No, I just find the idea of people breaking into song and dance so intensely silly that it’s funny.  I don’t believe that I’ve bashed the Hollywood Oldboy on this site at all, though I share concerns about Justin Lin and the casting rumors so far seem kind of dodgy.  If done _well_ I’ll go see it and be happy to do so.

And the guy in this thread who _did_ bash the Hollywood remake bashed the director of this Bollywood version in his very next breath, so you can safely assume that he dislikes both remakes equally.

Don’t mind being accused of snobbery, but only when snobbery has actually occured.
