Iron Giant
So, I literally just hung up the phone following a lengthy conversation with Canadian auteur Guy Maddin, most of which was devoted to his latest feature The Brand Upon the Brain, and while I do promise to get this transcribed and posted as soon as possible (likely Tuesday, as this is a holiday weekend up here and I’ll be out of town for most of it) he dropped a couple nuggets that bear immediate repition.
First, he is currently shooting a new short film on the shores of Lake Gimli that involves him being awoken in early in the morning by ballerinas who then proceed to roll around in the sand before leaping into the frigid waters. I’m not making this up.
Second, in his own words he has decided to finally stop resisting the advice of many friends and make his next feature film a genre picture. Yes, boys and girls, Maddin’s going to try his hand at horror and that’s good news indeed.
For those wondering about the Winnipeg documentary he mentioned last time we had the chance to speak to him that is apparently in the can and waiting on him to figure out what sort of shape to give it so that it can be edited.

Any mention of Brand upon the Brain DVD and what that would entail sound-track wise?
Horror movie. Yum.
