It has been a while since we reported anything on Shimoyama’s ninja romance epic Shinobi. Apple Japan has the newest trailer and we’re pretty darn sure that’s Tak Sakaguchi [Versus and Death Trance] in there. It’s definitely Joe Odagiri [Bright Future] in the lead.

The year is 1614. Japan is finally a unified country under the first shogun, Tokugawa. Gennosuke of Kohga and Oboro of Iga, are the last hope of two isolated ninja villages wracked by endless tragedy and a cycle of revenge. The blessing of their love should have brought peace to the suffering people. However, the conspiracy brought by Tokugawa once again tears the two villages apart. Gennosuke constantly speaks in favor of peace, while Oboro takes the choice to fight to resolve the conflict. With each Ninja having super human powers, the battle is set to fight off each other for their own existence. Now destined to meet as enemies, will Gennosuke and Oboro find a way to pursuit their star-crossed love? ACDrifter

    SIMPLY STUNNING!

Wish the trailer would gain some subtitles and lose the Japanese Pop song at the end, which lessens the ‘epic’ feel the rest of the trailer gives...There are some moments of beauty and sublime ass-kicking in that trailer.

I love the moon shot in it for one.

  3. Kurt 07/21/2005 @ 9:59pm

Yea, the moon shot reminds me of Casshern.

I didn’t want to say it Kurt but yeah that ran through my mind as well. It was purdy.

Is this the movie adaptation of the Shinobi videogame?

    Yankumi!

Hmm..interesting. Looks definetly better in this trailer than the last video that I saw from this.

Nice to see Yukie Nakama is in this, loved her in Gokusen.

This Kouga/Iga story seems to be pretty popular at the moment, the currently running anime, Basilisk, is also about the same story.

That song sounds like it’s from ayumi hamasaki.

  9. idrepublix 08/29/2005 @ 5:16am

it is from Ayu. Sounds oK at first but as always her grating nasal voice only goes on to annoy greatly.

Could someone , anyone please sub this! I find it sad that FF Advent Children’s trailer was subbed so quickly by fans but this has not. =( Please, someone, do the J-film fan community an enormous favour! ^_^

The movie is based on a novel (forgot the exact title...)

The manga “Basilisk” is based on this novel and the

anime is based on this manga.

The novel has been around for some times.

I don’t know about the video game, but since Shinobi just

is another term for ninja, it could be just another title.

    Chao!

the song is heaven by ayumi hamasaki. im a big ayu fan

Grrr… Tokugawa was not the first shogun. Minamoto Yoritomo was the first, nearly 5 centuries earlier. The movie looks swank, though.

I am an Ayu fan too. The song HEAVEN fits very well with the movie, you should listen to it from the beginning and you will understand. And her nasal voice is lovely and unique, not annoying. That’s my opinion.

    Anyway back to topic

I’ve been keeping an eye on this visually amazing movie for ages. Has anyone ordered the DVD yet? I have! I’ve ordered the extremely limited edition one. You can get it as yesasia.com or cdjapan.co.jp
