I’ve been waiting for something like this for rather a while now and, lo! It arrived in my mailbox tonight. It’s a trailer freshly cut for Spanish cult director Cesar Velasco Broca’s entire science fiction trilogy which began with 2002’s Der Milschorf, moved on to 2004’s Kinky Hoodoo Voodoo, and concluded with this year’s Avant Petalos Grillados, which won best experimental short at Slamdance and played as part of Director’s Fortnight at Cannes.

These are odd little beasts, shot on a vintage 1940’s camera and playing like a blend of Ed Wood and Guy Maddin. There’s nobody on the planet quite like Velasco Broca, so strap in and prepare yourself for a very odd ride.

And while you’re at it, why not check out the poster art and storyboards for his proposed feature debut Transharmonic Nights and the trailer for his very odd, very funny The Intergalactic Adventures of Jaime De Funes and Arancha?

Avant Petalos Grillados and The Intergalactic Adventures of Jaime De Funes and Arancha are both playing locally here in Toronto as part of the Worldwide Short Film Festival later this month.
