Big Lebowski
Yes, boys and girls, I’ve been watching the official website of Minoru Kawasaki’s Guilala revival film - the full title is Guilala’s Counter Attack: The Touyaku Summit One-Shot Crisis - for a couple months now waiting for the day a full trailer would arrive featuring the creature in all of its rubber-suited city stomping glory and that day has arrived. Kawasaki’s as campy and analog as they come so don’t expect anything high tech here but, man, does it look like a big load of goofy fun. No sign of Takeshi Kitano’s character in this trailer but there’s plenty of stomping action to keep the giant monster fan in you happy.
You’ll find the full trailer and earlier teaser below the break in the Twitch Player.

Now that is what I live for!! I’m still shocked at how old school it actually looks. They even used stock footage from the original 1967 film. WOW!! I can’t wait to see this one!!

HA! Looks TERRIBLE and I can’t WAIT to SEE IT! They really kept the effects the same as the original.
Love the ROAR at the end.

The statue in the temple looks like Kitano!
Does he get big and fight Guilala? He better!

Oh yes he does actually duke it out with ‘Guilala’ as ‘TakeMajin’: http://www.ryuganji.net/2008/04/25/kitano-takeshi-vs-monster-x-as-referred-by-kawasaki-minoru/ and here: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php/2008/04/29/update-more-guilala/ I think the only thing that could make this any better is if the original lead actress; Peggy Neal had made a comeback cameo in the film!! Oh, Peggy Neal where are you now?? Does anyone out there know??

So, Kitano is going to fight the monster dressed like that? Holy jebus, i was going to say “rad” but this is too much greatness for my brain to handle it.
Avery 06/11/2008 @ 1:05pm
Yeah he is. Check the official site for updates and pics, but sadly they’re not revealing “TakeMajin” yet: http://www.cinemacafe.net/official/guilala/

*Possible spoilers*
Definitely three instances of Kitano in this trailer, one is his likeness in the “temple” of the village, looks just like him, two is the glowing figure at the end which has the outline of a shiva/buddha type god-figure and three is his voice over that end bit. From the trailer and no Japanese language skills whatsoever I’d say they conjure him by praying or something at that very rural and unrefined village which stands in stark opposition to the alleged “refinement” of the G8 summit.

Wow that looks insanely terrible.
