Lengthy Teaser Trailer for Yoji Yamda’s ‘Kabei’ (’Mother’, 2008) with Tadanobu Asano.

Yamada moves on to another peiod in time, the 1940’s, for a film based on Teruyo Nagami’s book ’Requiem for a Father‘, ”I would like to make this film with homage to [every mother] who held her family in her arms and lived through hard times like a raging roller storm.” says Yamada [Stonebridge Press]. Yamada & Tora-san fans will appreciate Sayuri Yoshinaga’s appearance, many will also love the idea of yet more from Tadanobu Asano - shooting began early in 2007, film opens in January 2008. Kabei, which ”is a powerful drama set during World War II” looks fairly familiar at first, but ”...about a mother and family struggling to survive after her husband being arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order Act. ” [Monsters & Critics] doubtless gets a little more unusual and deeply into stranger territory.
