In the Mood for Love
The official Sony Classics poster for the North American release of Kung Fu Hustle has just been released. It’s nothing at all like I was expecting but I like it quite a lot. We got a larger version here.

Looks great. It captures the uniqueness of the film, and its gleeful sense of fun.

I recently bought Kung Fu hustle on R3, I was wondering if someone can clear something up for me. In the opening scene with the axe gang, when the leader takes out the girl with the shot gun, it seems to have been cut, there is no gun shot noise, and suddenly she is lying there, has it been shot this way?? Also, later in the movie, the leader of the axe gang asks a young man to look away, and then looks as if he is going to hit him with a Kane, but again, no noise, and then the young guy is lying there. Is this how it is meant to be??
Help would be very much appreciated.

Where did you get yours from? I watched the Columbia R3 disc last night and both of those scenes are definitely there - when he shoots the girls in the back it sends her flying forward several feet ... no cuts there ...

Mine is defo the R3, its the Columbia disc, it also states that there is a theatrical trailer on the DVD, which there isnt, it goes straight from the warning to the menu, which contains, play, set up and scene selection, no special features option, but those scenes are definately not there.

Todd,
I just called the company I got it from, cdwow, and they are now advertising it as 95 as opposed to 99 minutes long. I queried this and the guy said that it’s becuase its PAL and not NTSC, and as such, it runs faster, which sounds like nonsense, is it??
Todd 03/02/2005 @ 5:13pm
The PAL speedup part is not nonsense (it boosts things by 4% which is why audiophiles always prefer NTSC releases because PAL ups the pitch of the audio) but I got mine from CD WOW and it’s NTSC and 99 minutes.
Have they switched to the mainland release, maybe? I think mainland China uses PAL ...

Todd,
they are sending me another copy, so I am gonna see if those scenese are there, cheers for the info.

There was a mixup, and some of the discs turned out to be the Malaysian edition. So I’d say if yours is cut and has no Special Features option on the main menu, you got the wrong copy.
