Gay-themed Korean drama “No Regrets,” which was picked up by Fortissimo for world sales at this fall’s Pusan Intl., is off to a strong start at the Korean box office.
Despite opening on only six screens, the low-budget film sold 12,126 tickets to gross $84,000 in its first weekend.
Production company Generation Blue Films claimed the film passed 10,000 admissions faster than any other low-budget, independent film from Korea.
Meanwhile, the film also picked up the top award at the Ansan Intl. Next Film Festival, a small-scale event launched this year. Chosen from among five digitally shot Korean independent films, “No Regrets” will share $108,000 in prize money with two others.
The feature debut of Leesong Hee-il, known locally for his acclaimed short works, “No Regrets” centers on the relationship between a male escort and a wealthy client.

Intriguing heads-up, Jon; have you actually seen this? Hopefully it will be picked up by San Francisco’s Frameline Festival next Spring.
