Finally getting caught up with my regular outside forum reading after spending the past few weeks swamped with After Dark work and getting our new writers all set up - and don’t they look great? - and what do I find over at DVD Talk?  Michel Ocelot’s Kirikou and the Wild Beasts is getting a DVD release here in my native Canada on November 14th and, yes, it is English friendly.

The listing says it’s coming from Alliance, but they’re primarily a distributor and not producer of product, so my guess is that they’re simply getting someone else’s disc to market, most likely Quebec’s Seville Pictures, since they hold the Quebec rights to the film.  Regardless of who’s actually behind it this appears to be the first English friendly release of the film anywhere in the world.

It can’t have English audio, as there is no English dub. But the Canada DVD doesn’t even have English subtitles. The first to do so is the USA release: http://www.amazon.com/Kirikou-Wild-Beast-Michel-Ocelot/dp/B0019APR8A/ref=sr_1_4

No, stupid me. The Taiwan DVD does have English subtitles, and is all regions to boot. Well, that’s what the distributor’s site claims.
