Lost

You know what? Kim Ki-Duk, the producer… doesn’t sound half bad.
The first effort from Kim Ki-Duk Film not dealing with the director’s own work was that volcano of raw energy called 아름답다 (Beautiful), and even their second, upcoming actioner 영화는 영화다 (Rough Cut) could be pretty yummy. Save for, well, having the stupidest Korean title of the last few years (“A Movie is a Movie”). Just like Jeon Jae-Hong, director Jang Hoon grew up under Kim’s wings, acting as assistant director on 활 (The Bow) and 빈집 (3-Iron), which don’t exactly bring rugged action films to mind. But the cast make all this look a little more believable: Kang Ji-Hwan and So Ji-Seop are both good actors (Kang has better fundamentals, So is a little stronger in the charisma department), and despite having the tendency to star in a lot of crap, they’d look pretty much perfect kicking and punching each other’s mush.
The 1.5 Billion Won film has Kang as Su-Ta (close to the Korean spelling of “Star”), an actor whose behavior is bordering on the hoodlum type, while So plays Gang-Pae (close to the Korean for “gangster”), a jopok member who has decided to join the thespian ranks. Get where this is going? The catch is, the two decide to work together, but no pulled punches. They’ll fight for real, hence the “rough” cuts. Hmmm, that sounds just about right. Kang has gained a huge fanbase after mid-sized TV hits like 경성스캔들 (Scandal in Old Seoul) and 快刀 홍길동 (Hong Gil-Dong), while this is So’s first acting role in four years, save for a little CF work, after going through the mandatory military service. Film releases on September 11, and you can find the family-sized serving of machismo in the teaser below the break.

I like the cast and director, not so sure about the trailer though.
