... and it is Goemon.  A few sparse details have made it out as far as what the Casshern director is up to now and the immediate question is whether or not this is the same film he’s developing with writer Eric Heisserer.  It could be.  The money is the same in both cases - Warner Brothers are primary investors - and Heisserer also wrote the script for the Hideo Nakata-directed, Taka Ichise produced remake of Inhuman and Ichise is listed as a producer on this as well.  Of course, it may well not be.  The Heisserer project is an alien invasion film that began life as an adaptation of Greg Bear’s Forge of God while Don Brown at Ryuganji is speculating from the title that this one may be a period fantasy about ninja warrior Ishikawa Goemon.  So we may very well have two new Kiriya projects in the works.  This will definitely be the first to go, though, with photography running from this month through to November.

I had a blast seeing Casshern in the cinema (on a VERY large screen with excellent sound!), and maybe even more of a blast seeing the audience with divided opinions afterwards.

Lots of love and hate in the same room, debates starting all over the place… smile
    Good stuff!

The point being that I’m really looking forward to this (or these).

Whenever I hear or see “Goemon”, I always think of that video game franchise by Konami (although I’ve only played the first title that came onto the N64). It’s probably not going to be the same Goemon though.

It’s the same Goemon, chromega, but there are many interpretations of the character.  Seems similar to Robin Hood, whose story also has a lot of different versions.
