UPDATE: The R2 discs were just announced. The DVD edition is properly listed but the Blue-ray is only a partial listing right now. So, my fellow Brits, have at it!

Sweet merciful crap! April is going to be an expensive month.

Confession time. I don’t have The Adventures of Baron Menchausen in my house in any known format. For shame. Those of you who know me, this is shameful. But I rejoice because on April 8th a 20th anniversary edition of Monty Python alumnus Terry Gilliam’s much loved film is coming out on DVD and Blue-ray. Joy! Wow, Canadian actress and filmmaker Sarah Polly is very, very young in this film. But Uma Thurman is still very, very naked in the movie too. Joy!

Standard Edition extras included: 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widecreen Transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio, Commentary with Director Terry Gilliam & Co-Writer/Actor Charles McKeown, ‘The Madness and Misadventures of Munchausen’ Documentary, Storyboard Sequences with All-New Vocal Performances by Terry Gilliam and Charles McKeown and Deleted Scenes.

Blue-ray Edition extras included: All the above mentioned extras and Marvelous World of Munchausen Enhanced Graphics & Trivia Track, 1.85:1 Widecreen Transfer (1080p), Audio: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, French Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and Subtitles in English, English SDH, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai!!!

Mack, you were just ahead of me…

A butchered movie to be sure, but parts of it are breathtakingly beautiful. One of the first shots show a family hiding under the giant severed horsehead of a demolished statue, and it’s like you’re watching a classic painting.

It’s full of shots like that and if anyone ever makes a Discworld movie, take note of the designs used here (especially Death!).

You are not alone. This should be in my collection too and isn’t. I’ve been waiting for this!

Whoo!  I really, really love this film and I don’t have it on DVD either ... now we just need a kick ass edition of The Fisher King ...

i’m kinda bummed out that it’s not a criterion release…but very happy that it’s at least being released and i don’t have to wait for some independent/artsy television network to air it at 3am.
