The official website for Jorge Olguín’s Chilean horror The Call of the Sea (Caleuche: el llamado del mar) is now functional.

The screenplay for The Call of the Sea was written by Olguín and Carolina García. The movie stars Leonor Varela as Isabel, and Santiago Cabrera as Simón. Varela is also one of its executive producers, as is Guillermo del Toro.

Here’s a synopsis for The Call of the Sea from The Hollywood Reporter article “Del Toro accepts horror ‘Call’” (April 21, 2006): “‘Call of the Sea’ is based on a legend about a ghost ship that navigates the cold waters of a mysterious Chilean island in search of the souls of local fisherman. The story centers on a marine biologist (Varela) who discovers that many of the legends are related to her family’s past.”

Olguín’s previous directing credits include Eternal Blood (Sangre eterna) and Black Angel (Ángel negro); his future directing projects include Clock Tower.

Those who are interested in The Call of the Sea may also wish to read the Twitch articles on Patricio Valladares’ Chilean horror Curriculum and Javier Elorrieta’s Spanish-Chilean thriller Psycho Game (Rojo intenso) - a.k.a. “Crimson Blood”.
