He’s easily one of Hong Kong’s busiest directors and as long as he keeps putting out great stuff then he has our full support here at Twitch. Yesterday a spokesperson from To’s production company Milkyway Image said that the director wants Orlando Bloom to star in one of his next films, Red Circle, a remake of the 1970 French crime thriller Le Rouge Cercle by Jean-Pierre Melville. HK superstud Chow Yun-fat and Irishman Liam Neeson are already in negotiations.

Below, the synopsis of the French film…

Corey is a cool, aristocratic thief, released from prison on the same day that Vogel, a murderer, escapes from the custody of the patient Mattei, a cat-loving police superintendent. Corey robs Rico, his mob boss, then enlists Vogel and an ex-police sharpshooter, Jansen, in a jewel heist. While Corey is harried by the vengeful Rico, Mattei pressures Santi, a nightclub owner and pimp, to help him trap the thieves. Over all hangs the judgment of the police directeur, that every man is guilty. Wiki

Also in the good news department is the script is being written by Wai Ka-Fai. The two collaborated on the very nice Mad Detective, a film we rather enjoyed when it played here at TIFF. If they choose to stay close to the original plot and they land this kind of talent in front of the camera this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Wai Ka Fai? Not exactly the writter i would have in mind for a project of this magnitude. The same goes for Legolas in the casting.

But To, Neeson and CYF sound very very good. I’m guessing John Woo droped from this? Since he was suppose to be the director, and he’s a big fan of Melville.

Johhny To should just quit churning out these poorly action films of his.
